Vegetable Crops

HYBRID CHILLI

Soil Type & pH

Chilli can be grown on a wide range of soils from sandy to heavy clay. However, well-drained, sandy or red loam soils rich organic matter with a Ph range of 5.5 to 6.8 are considered as ideal.

Sowing period

Seeds are sown in March to April & May to June for rainy season and Nov to Feb for summer season. In northern plains, June to Aug sowing also takes place.

Selection of Cultivars

Ramnagar Seed Farm Pvt Ltd offers Tiyasha, Tithee, Rochona, Tikha and RSF 786 Chilli Hybrids which are high yielder and very promising.

Seed Rate

100 to 120 gm seeds are sufficient for raising nursery for one acre land.

Spacing & Transplanting

Spacing depends upon the type of variety grown and the season of planting. Normally the seedlings are transplanted at a spacing of line to line 90 to 120 cms and plant to plant from 45 to 60 cms. Transplanting should preferably be done in the evening.

Manure

Well decomposed farm yard manure 10 to 15 tonnes per acre. Green manure crop before the main crop is also suitable. The fertilizers dose depends upon soil fertility & amount of organic manure applied to the crop.

Note: Above information is based on as per our research centres. Hence, you are requested to refer local university/KVK recommendations as soil structure, seasonal variation is different in every state.

Irrigation

Irrigation intervals should be according to soil type and rainfall. If the plants show leaves drooping at evening, it is an indication of irrigation needed. Flowering & fruiting are critical stages for irrigation.

Intercultural Operations
Weed Control

Filed should be kept weeds free by weeding at regular intervals. First weeding is done when seedlings are 2 weeks old & subsequent weeding is done at 25-30 days intervals or pre-emergence weedicide can be used followed by weeding at 30 days intervals.

Major Pests & Diseases
Pests/Diseases
Management

Damping Off

Soil drenching of the affected seedlings with saaf (2 Gms/Litre) of the water helps to reduce the disease incidence.

Die Back & Fruit Rot

Spray Copper Oxy Chloride or Conquer or Difenconazole.

Mosaic (CMV & PVY)

Remove weeds around crop; use reflective mulches to deter aphids from plants and check aphids population by using effective insecticide. Spray lmidagold, Acetamiprid or Lancer Gold to control aphid, thrips & white fly population control.

Powdery Mildew

Spray wettable sulphur 85% WP 2 Gms/Litre.

Or Penconazole 10 % EC or Triadmefon 25% WP.

Fruit Borer

Spray Fego 14.5 % SC or Spinosad 2.5% EC.
